How does he do it already? I don't think he's ever heard anyone use that phrase, but somehow he's already picked up the most common English mistake that Chinese speakers make. The Chinese word kai is used for both "open" and "turn on" as well as "drive". So that means that you kai a bottle or package, kai the lights and air conditioner, and kai the car. How did he figure out that you open lights?

This became a discussion at dinner tonight. The guy who works in a hospital was wondering what you do when you're getting someone prepped for surgery. If you ask the resident to "kai the patient," what will they do? open them up for surgery or turn them on? Perhaps a surgery nurse would like to weigh in. . .
