Training up a good husband

Not my husband, but my son to be a good husband.

(I turn off the blowdryer after drying my hair)
Keanu: All done!
Me: Does Mommy's hair look pretty?
Keanu: (continues playing with his train) Yeah.
Me: No, you didn't even look at me! You've got to at least look before you say it looks good!
Keanu: (looks up and smiles) Yeah. (giggles)

Sundays this month

We started a new weekly tradition this month - swimming!

We've spent the past three Sunday afternoons at one of two hot spring swimming pools. We like the outdoor one best because there are some fun slides for Keanu to play on and the water's nice and warm. The best part - it's relatively quiet as there have only been a handful of other patrons until the Korean tour bus arrived. Even Kate got to partake in the water fun one afternoon!

The afternoon of swimming has then been followed by dinner at one of two steakhouses that serve 12-42 oz. steaks as well as great burgers, also along the North coast. Our favorite is the Longhorn, but maybe that's because of the atmosphere: a jail and a slide outside for the kiddos to play on after eating!

Today, however, we broke with tradition and were content to mostly stay home. We left the house only to go to Chili's for dinner. Keanu had eaten a big snack after waking up from his nap, so he wasn't too hungry at dinner time. He didn't touch the fries or eggroll I tried to give him, but he sure perked up when the "little trees" arrived. He ate the entire portion of broccoli off my plate and didn't touch the fries. What a smart little guy!

All night long

Kate has figured out how to sleep all night long this week with the aid of her new-found appendage:

Open the lights

Keanu: Nu open y-ights.
Me: Yes, Keanu turned on the lights.

How does he do it already? I don't think he's ever heard anyone use that phrase, but somehow he's already picked up the most common English mistake that Chinese speakers make. The Chinese word kai is used for both "open" and "turn on" as well as "drive". So that means that you kai a bottle or package, kai the lights and air conditioner, and kai the car. How did he figure out that you open lights?

Wordless Wednesday

Father and Son

Since I've been back at work, Kevin and Keanu have been able to spend quite a bit more father-son time. Kevin teaches almost every evening so he's off periodically during the day - either the morning or afternoon - and he's been using those times to hang out with his little buddy Keanu. Not only is it great for Keanu, but it gives Grandma a break (and some quiet time) to just focus on Kate.
I don't have any pictures, but last week one day they went swimming and yesterday they went up the mountain to see the trees blossoming and run around. What do the dads in your life do with their little ones?
